Stand Sunday

Today is recognized as Stand Sunday. We’ve decided to highlight this day and devote a sermon to asking what God’s heart is towards vulnerable children and families. In turn, what then should be our posture towards them and what can we do in response?

In the sermon, we gave information we’ve learned about the current realities in our state and in our community – there are over 6,700 children in foster care throughout our state and less than 3,200 homes open for children. We also mentioned ways you can get involved and want to highlight some of them here:

  • We informed you that we will be hosting a Foster Family Christmas Party on Saturday, December 10 (volunteers needed from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.) Foster parents or caseworkers will be able to drop children off at our building where we will provide snacks, lunch, and fun activities for them throughout the day. We need several volunteers to pull this off! This is a fun and low-bar way to serve families in our community. If interested in serving, please sign up today.

  • 111 Project provides statistics throughout the state of Oklahoma as well as in each individual county. You can also see the different tiers of ways to serve and give.

  • Care Portal exists to help vulnerable children and their families. It was created as a tool to mobilize churches throughout the country to care for foster children and vulnerable families in their own backyards (and they do a fantastic job at it!) Would you consider helping us build a framework to better and more readily meet needs at Prov Road? Would you consider being a liaison between the needs posted to their site and your own Gospel Community group?

  • Would you consider fostering children in your home? Learn more about foster care and adoption guidelines in Oklahoma.

We are asking all of you to consider ways that you can serve vulnerable children and families right around us. Would you pray and open-handedly ask God to stir within you a greater desire to meet the needs of hurting families in Norman, Cleveland County, and throughout our entire state?

If you are interested in opening your home to foster children in any capacity or would like to have a space to ask questions that you have, let us know here!
