Advent Resources

“The days are long, but the years are short.” For many of us, this old adage feels as true as ever. It’s usually around this time of year that we look up and ask ourselves where the time, and the previous year, have gone.

As followers of Jesus, we always want to consider ways that we can redeem the time we have, making the best use of this most precious commodity the Lord has entrusted to us. We observe advent, in part, to intentionally slow down. Slow down our schedules, slow down our lives, slow down our busy minds and hearts, to remember and rejoice over the first coming of our Lord Jesus.

As we look back to remember the fulfilled promised of the long-awaited Messiah (Isaiah 9:6) in his first coming, this gives us confidence as we look forward to the second coming of Jesus (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

Each year, we hope to provide you with resources that can serve you and your families well during this season. (See last year’s post for fun family activities.) Below, you will find articles on why we observe advent, daily readings for adults, readings for families with kids, and even playlists we recommend during this season. (We even encourage listening to them before Thanksgiving!) We hope you find these helpful as you observe advent and remember the first coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We are putting this out early to allow you to plan ahead, but also because some may require you to purchase books or materials in advance.
