The History of Redemption

If you attended or listened to this Sunday’s gathering, you noticed that we did things a little differently. Rather than hearing a sermon preached like we do nearly every other Sunday throughout the year, we had a handful of covenant members come forward and read large portions of Scripture.

The inspiration for doing this came from Ronnie Smith, a pastor and missionary, who gave up his life so that the people of Libya and throughout North Africa would hear about, know, and love Jesus Christ.

Ronnie memorized all of the verses that we read this morning and delivered them in a message at the Austin Stone Community Church 10 years ago. When you have time, read a brief overview of Ronnie’s story. After Ronnie’s death, his wife, Anita, chose to forgive his attackers. Read her open letter here.

As you read about Ronnie’s story and think about his family, pray for them. Pray also for missionaries throughout the world who sacrifice so much in order that all peoples of the world would hear about the Good News of Jesus Christ.

”Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20
