Recommended Books on Anxiety

This in no way is an exhaustive list of books dealing with anxiety. They are the ones I've found very helpful in my own life and study of the topic:

  • The Anxiety Opportunity by Curtis Chang

Curtis Chang takes a different angle on anxiety proposing what if instead of battling anxiety, we saw our worries as a doorway to spiritual transformation? I found Chang's approach helpful and hopeful.

  • Running Scared by Ed Welch

Ed Welch takes a traditional Biblical Counseling angle on fear, worry, and anxiety by applying Biblical truths of the gospel to it. This is a great book in that it helps us discover what is underneath our anxiety and how we can apply the gospel to it.

  • A Small Book for the Anxious Heart by Ed Welch

This little book by Welch reads more like a devotional with 50 chapters, 2-3 pages in length. All chapter topics deal with anxiety in some way.

  • Finding Quiet by J.P. Moreland

This one reads a little like an autobiography, but it also is a bit more on the academic side. Moreland, a philosopher and professor synthesizes his extensive research and comes at anxiety from a Biblical point of view while also spending a lot of time pulling from the fields of psychology and psychiatry. This is the densest book of these on the list.

  • Voice of the Heart by Chip Dodd

This book doesn't focus on anxiety but takes a broader look at our emotions. Chip Dodd, a teacher and counselor helps people address their inner life by looking at emotions. He spends a whole chapter on fear and one on emotions, both of which are very helpful in addressing anxiety.
